Background

Two #10-24 x 3/8” Phillips truss head thread forming screws were being used to attach a chrome plated die cast aluminum handle to an attaché case frame. This type of screw combined with an awkward location caused worker complaints due to the difficult starting alignment and the high driving torque.

Solution

Tests with an equivalent size DUO-TAPTITE® screw provided a marked reduction in starting torque and increased prevailing off torque for resistance to loosening.

Customer Benefit

The dual lobular design of the DUO-TAPTITE® gave a 33% higher stripping torque and increased the strip to drive ratio, while the unique stabilizing thread at the point of the screw insures quick alignment in the pilot hole with easy pick up and minimal end load.
