Background

The customer was suffering complaints of loose assemblies and stripped fasteners. The problem was paint contamination and misaligned weld nuts resulting in a loss of pre-load in the joints. The severe loading worked bolts loose and revealed cross-threaded joints.

Solution

Replacing machine screws with CORFLEX-I DUO-TAPTITE fasteners, eliminated both cross threading and paint contamination problems since DUO-TAPTITE fasteners form their own threads. Plus the self-aligning characteristic of DUO-TAPTITE fasteners provided less misalignment of the weld nuts.

Customer Benefit

Savings were achieved by lowering warranty service claims and weld nuts were accurately aligned on panels by locating them with pins via the panel and nut bore. The overall in-place cost of the joint was lowered due to eliminating the cost of tapping the weld nut.
