RIVSCREW fasteners were used in the assembly of aluminum heat sinks in computer components as it was believed that riveting permitted fastener assembly and more serviceability than drilling and tapping holes. The threads formed by the RIVSCREW were distorted and didn’t conform to any standard gauge decreasing its chance of serviceability. TAPTITE 2000® fasteners were tested as a cost-savings measure to the RIVSCREW fastener.
TAPTITE 2000® fasteners form their own threads, thereby eliminating the time concern in regard to drilling or tapping holes. TAPTITE 2000® screws can also be reinserted multiple times or can be replaced by machine screws, if necessary providing greater serviceability required for replacing board level components.
TAPTITE 2000® fasteners eliminate the chips and associated cleaning operations of the RIVSCREW fastener. TAPTITE 2000® fasteners also provide a secondary locking feature. The customer would realize a cost-savings of $0.425/hole. With an annual volume estimate of 800,000 pieces, this results in an annualized cost savings of $340,000.
